This is my 2nd attempt at installing MAME previously, I moved the folder to Applications, added some ROMs to the roms folder, and nothing would work. Could someone help me figure out what I'm missing or doing wrong?Īs far as I know, I did the initial setup correctly: download the latest SDL framework and transfer that to my Library/Frameworks folder, then download and unzip SDL MAME 0.194, and move it to Desktop (at the moment). It's been a bit of a learning curve with moving to SDL MAME (I used MAME OS X previously), and I still seem to have problems setting up ROMs despite following directions I see on Reddit, YouTube, or elsewhere on the internet. I haven't run or set up MAME on my Mac in years, and I decided to get back into it in the past week. r/pinball - Pinball specific discussion. r/arcade - Original CoinOP Arcade specific discussion. r/RetroGamingNetwork - a multireddit for retro gaming! r/HyperSpin - HyperSpin specific discussion. R/MAME RULES/REGULATIONS REDDIT'S ARCADE COMMUNITY Over time, MAME (originally stood for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) absorbed the sister-project MESS (Multi Emulator Super System), so MAME now documents a wide variety of (mostly vintage) computers, video game consoles and calculators, in addition to the arcade video games that were its initial focus. The fact that the software is usable serves primarily to validate the accuracy of the documentation (how else can you prove that you have recreated the hardware faithfully?). The source code to MAME serves as this documentation. This is achieved by documenting the hardware and how it functions. As electronic technology continues to rush forward, MAME prevents this important "vintage" software from being lost and forgotten. MAME’s purpose is to preserve decades of software history. MAME is a multi-purpose emulation framework. To re-enable the crash report, just replace none with prompt.Questions? Please check out OUR MAME/BYOAC Wiki! If it happens to you, there’s nothing we can do about it, but you can disable the annoying crash report dialog if you will: $ defaults write DialogType none

Please also note that there’s a Qt/Phonon bug that may cause a post-mortem crash on exit, which you can safely ignore (though it may be annoying). If you want or need to build QMC2 from source (explained in this FAQ), note that XCode 4.x is currently NOT supported, only XCode 3.2 (due to a Qt limitation community patches for qmake to support XCode 4 already exist, though)!

You only need to additionally install the SDL framework (1.2.14), which is required for MAME & MESS anyway on that platform. Qt-wise, the package is self-contained, that is it already includes the Qt 4 framework (4.7.3).
